A Note on This Beer
When one of Craft Beer & Brewing’s Top Three Small Breweries has a new release, we get excited at Tavour!
It’s not just the praise that gets us pumped. Tucked away, about 4 hours east of our Seattle beer-quarters, the husband and wife duo at Dwinell Country Ales whip up masterpieces that exemplify the terroir of the arid Columbia Gorge region.
Today’s spontaneously-fermented Wheat Ale is no exception, with all the natural, wild flavors of the Northwestern plains.
First, by spontaneously fermenting the base with the wild cultures found in the air around the brewery, the beer contains natural barnyard flavors specific to the dry, yet fertile climate of the area. The air of the Columbia Gorge creates unique characteristics that simply can’t be replicated.
Infusions of regionally sourced rhubarb (added in the barrel) and Oregonian apples (added during re-fermentation) give pleasant splashes of pucker and sweet in each drink. Then, the sip finishes with an oaky characteristic from the barrel.
Since it comes in a 500ml bottle, there’s enough of this exciting and inimitable brew to share with a lucky friend! But, we only have 300 bottles. So, if you’d like to join in on this wild bottle of excitement, and maybe even spread a little, grab some of our stash fast!
