A Note on This Beer

Growing up, my dad took me and my brothers out to breakfast every Sunday morning at this little diner. We’d all split a cinnamon roll so big it barely fit on the table. I always gazed in wonder and excitement at this huge, fluffy pastry when the waiter brought it out.

That same look came over my face when I heard Listermann Brewing Company was whipping up a batch of Father Kyle’s Cinnamon Roll Stout.

Listermann first brewed this Stout back in 2017 to celebrate the appearance of their friend Father Kyle Schnippel on The Great American Baking Show. This brew became so beloved that the brewers have brought it back twice now!

And, what’s not to love? The brewers infused rich pastry flavors with heaps of fresh cinnamon and actual cinnamon rolls. Add a touch of lactose and a 6.1% ABV, and you’ve got a creamy, spiced Stout sure to warm up any cool day.

Though I now live states away from that diner and their gigantic sticky buns, I feel the same joy I did as a kid knowing that this cinnamon roll-packed Stout is waiting for me in the fridge.

The cinnamon flavor comes through so acutely in this lovely stout, that for moments at a time I thought I was actually drinking a cinnamon roll. A great stout will look forward to trying a mother beer from this brewery.

Nose smells more like cinnamon rolls than actual cinnamon rolls! A creamy spiced stout is how I would describe it. Plenty of cinnamon. I feel like I get a touch of hops on the back end that kinda breaks up the pastry feel for me.

Smooth. Cinnamon is just enough to taste it without it being overpowering. A touch of coffee bitterness is nice although I wish there was just a touch more carbonation to add some bite to the bitterness. Sweetness is spot on, not cloying or syrupy. Unfortunately as it sat (this is a slow drinking beer to me) it went downhill; the flavor got flat except for the bitterness. I really enjoyed the first 2/3 of the glass and had to force myself to finish the final 1/3.

Very sweet, exactly like a cinnamon roll. Thick and syrupy. Difficult to drink after a little as the carbonation fades quickly.

Simple stout. Much Better then average, cinnamon was great, something was off on the beer part, I couldn’t put a finger on it. Wonderful beer, I’d get it again for sure!

Definitely get the pastry dough notes but was hoping for more cinnamon and sweetness at the end. Aroma is strong and an overall solid stout for those that still appreciate more bitterness these days.

You can smell the pastry and cinnamon in the glass as you pour. The color is rich and dark. But the flavor is stronger than expected for a Stout. Tastes very hoppy. It’s not what I expected. Great look and smell, but taste is hoppy and strong and bitter IMO. Not something to add to my rotation.

We ordered this one from Tavour. Chilled and poured into a goblet with the expectation of a stout thick, full body beer. Look: dark brown/light black. Finger size light tan head. Good lacing. Smell: biscuit, cinnamon, hints of vanilla. Taste: roast on the front, biscuit and cinnamon in the middle with trailing bitterness, cinnamon and malt. If you reach you get some vanilla, like the frosting on a cinnamon roll perhaps. In the nose aftertaste we get cinnamon roll for sure. Feel: heavy tickle of carbonation, light mouthfeel, the lactose doesn't really add to the thickness but contributes to great lacing. The thickness is more like a brown or a porter than a stout. Not a big body stout by any means, but drinkable. Bren really liked this one. The 6% ABV makes this a fringe stout, more like a porter. If you like cinnamon roll this one smells like it and the mid palate tastes like it. The bitter character is a bit odd for a sweet cinnamon roll stout. Cheers!

Mid palate tastes just like a cinnamon roll. Smells like one too. Overall solid however the bitterness at the end slightly throws me off given the sweetness initially on the pallate
