A Note on This Beer
If you’re like me, you’ve enjoyed many Oktoberfest brews during the fall season. But unless you’ve been to the famous festival in Germany, there’s a good chance you haven’t tried one quite like today’s!
Crafted in true modern German style, Lua Brewing’s rendition is a more elusive Pale Festbier Lager. Unlike the darker seasonal Lagers that run aplenty this time of year in the U.S., this one boasts a brilliant golden hue and more airy, refreshing notes of rich biscuity malt.
This lighter color and mouthfeel — along with a recipe of 100% German ingredients — make Lua’s Festbier far more akin to the beers flowing at Munich’s Oktoberfest than most American-made versions!
But the real thing setting this sipper apart? The five step, single decoction mash brewing method. Whereas a lot of Fest Lager brewers simply add more malts to try to mimic the rich, almost tannic flavors from decoction, the Lua team went all in on this painstaking process.
The result is an absolutely exquisite Lager, quenching and crisp-finishing, yet flowing with bread notes and an almost creamy mouthfeel.
Lagerheads, Oktoberfest lovers, craft fanatics — whichever category you fall into, you owe yourself a taste.
