A Note on This Beer
Aged in Chardonnay barrels for 18 months with white figs and Spanish lemon peel, the Figaro Sour Ale is a beloved barrel-aged masterpiece from the true House of Sour: Cascade Brewing. Figaro is one of Cascade’s most sought-after Sours -- with a 4.2 on Untappd, it’s one of the few beers that features fig.
Cascade blends strong Blond beers and layers of dried white figs to draw out deep, piquant fruit flavor, complementing oaky vanilla and green grape notes. Mouthpuckering tartness overwhelms the palate as notes of sour apples and hints of wild funk mingle. Flavors of pluot and preserved lemon blended with tart orange tingle on the tongue.
Because these tangy fruit flavors evolve over time, we snagged both the 2014 and 2015 versions. Try the 2014 edition for a slightly more mellow, funkier experience, or the 2015 edition for fully fruited, aggressive sourness. Or better yet, do a vertical tasting to explore the nuances of each version!
