About This Beer
Martin House Brewing Co. simply describes their 16% ABV(!!) Forbidden Fruit as “Barrel Aged Limoncello.”
Wait, what?
Limoncello is a fancy Italian lemon liqueur consisting mostly of lemon and sugar. And barrel aging refers to, well, conditioning in wood barrels. What the heck kind of beer concoction is this?
An absolutely delicious Imperial Sour Ale, it turns out! Martin House took their Limoncello (a sweet-tart lemon beer inspired by the famous liqueur) and aged it for five months in whiskey barrels. Left unblended and unfiltered for maximum flavor, the finished result is a fancy-as-heck, tangy liqueur-beer experience!
Tasting Notes
The lemon comes through loud and clear upfront, mellowing into candied citrus. The finish is like sipping an Old Fashioned cocktail, replete with hints of bourbon-soaked brown sugar, amarena cherry, and orange zest.
