A Note on This Beer
Allagash is a legendary brewery.
They were one of the first to introduce authentic, Wild Ales to the U.S. Years later, they’re still among the most inspiring brewers of the style!
When their beer involves Bourbon Barrels and fresh, locally-grown cherries like today’s Fox Leap, consider yourself lucky to even spot a bottle — much less to partake in its sweet, oaky-vanilla-kissed stone fruit nectar.
To make it, these masters first aged two beers — their Wild Ale in Bourbon Barrels for a year, and their Sour Ale in stainless for a year and half. Then, they mixed the two Ales together and aged the blend on 3,250 lbs of local, Maine-grown, Balaton and Montmorency cherries for another 4 months.
The result? A funky, lightly effervescent, 8.3% ABV, bourbon cherry pie Fruited Sour that beer geeks in-the-know will snatch up crazy fast. Last time we got our hands on some Fox Leap, it disappeared in less than a day!
