A Note on This Beer
It’s Wednesday, you’ve already had a long week, and instead of slipping non-dairy creamer into your coffee, you spike it with a hearty gulp of Baileys Irish Cream. Place that tasty feeling into a can and beer-ify it with the silky mocha espresso goodness of Three Heads Brewing’s Freak Cafe.
Just released this November yet already scoring a 4.1 on Untappd, this Imperial Coffee Oatmeal Brown Ale is a 7% ABV cocktail of Cadbury-like velvetiness and creamy Irish Cream sweets. One Untappd user, @bowmanc, was so baffled by its power he gave it 4.5 stars and said it was “The best coffee stout I’ve ever had.”
We can’t blame him for mislabeling this hearty Brown Ale a Stout -- the flavors that meld together from the oatmeal, coffee, and Chocolate Malts are typically only found in that style. Here’s how Three Heads got this beast to truly be a freak:
Imperial - It’s twice as boozy as any Brown Ale -- look out Newcastle.
Coffee - Additions of cold-brewed Colombian and Brazilian coffee beans bring out maximum the cocoa and caramelized nutty notes as smoothly as possible.
Oatmeal - These oats make the beer even smoother, while adding a touch of creamy sweetness akin the Baileys.
Brown Ale - Crystal and Pale Chocolate Malts drive up flavors of cacao nibs dipped in caramel, while making the 7% ABV virtually disappear in easy sipping magic.
Treat yourself this weekend (or this morning if you’ve “called in sick”) with a can of Freak Cafe’s Baileys and coffee-like sensations -- you’ll finish the first can so easy, you’ll have already forgotten how to turn on your Keurig.
