A Note on This Beer
One of my all-time favorite breakfast foods is, and always has been, a plate of sweet and cinnamon-y French Toast.
Even as a kid, I couldn’t get enough of my grandma’s French Toast. I’d inhale piece after piece, going back for 2nds, 3rds, 4ths, and — you guessed it — even 5ths!
Which is why I HAD to grab the 5th release of Hubbard’s Cave’s decadent French Toast Imperial Stout!
‘Cause, when it comes to world-class Pastry Stouts that fans are dying to try, these nano-batch brewers outrank many of the biggest names in the Dark Beer biz. They rock a higher UT-brewery rating than Three Floyds, Founders, and Anchorage!
So, I had to practically fight off a horde of Chicago Pastry Stout addicts to lock in a stash of French Toast (2019-5).
Thank the Dark Beer gods I did, too — the last 3 batches all clock an astronomical 4.20+ on Untappd!
The thick waves of sticky maple syrup in this batch welcome you as soon as you crack open the can. Rich notes of cinnamon and hazelnut pour across the palate amid strong flavors of warm maple syrup. A vanilla latte-like roastiness hangs in the back, and the lactose brings in a creamy mouthfeel to mask the boozy 12% ABV.
Every gulp of this glorious Imperial Stout is like getting a whole breakfast in the convenience of a drinkable, 16oz can. But this breakfast isn’t served ANYWHERE outside of Illinois! So, if you’re hungry for pastry-like Dark Beer decadence, you’d better hit that “Get It” button now!
