A Note on This Beer
Maybe the holidays just aren’t your thing. Maybe you loathe the sight of decorated trees, hate wrapping presents, and think that a fat old man sliding down your chimney is kinda creepy.
I certainly have friends like that, and they’re still going to get invites to my holiday parties. Here’s the plan: I’ll hand them a seasonally spiced sipper sure to warm them up and put them in the spirit, like today’s Friar’s Festivus Belgian-Style Quadrupel Ale from Monkless!
Brewed with brown nutmeg and cardamom, Friar’s Festivus is a light, vibrant, and dry take on the traditionally thick, caramelized Quad. Every sip is so loaded with warm spices, that I bet even Frank Constanza from Seinfeld would put some ornaments on his Festivus pole after drinking one.
This beer won Monkless a prestigious Gold Medal at the Oregon Beer Awards, even beating out Deschutes! AND that was the first time the brewery had ever entered a beer competition.
Now, that’s what we call a feat of strength!
Pop open the top, and let the aromas of brown sugar and clove greet the nose from the tawny pour. The use of two different yeast strains, Belgian and Witbier, makes for a complex interplay of piquant and plummy on the palate. The inclusion of candy sugar creates a soft flavor of honeyed dates on the finish that melts into a 10.2% ABV warmth.
Don’t add another grievance to this year’s list by missing out on today’s teeny-tiny stash of Friar’s Festivus. Secure yours now, and bring the holiday-cheer-in-a-bottle to your friends and family.
