A Note on This Beer
Kriek = Cherry Sour Ale. Framboise = Raspberry Sour Ale. What do you get when a GABF-dominating brewery blends ‘em together? Odell’s FRIEK = a cherry-raspberry freaky good time! I’m Friekin’ out, man!
Even though cherries and raspberries are a match made in tart, fruity heaven, you rarely see them featured in the same beer. Friek starts as a super-blend of oak-aged Krieks, some aged for years in barrels already brimming with wild, funky, sour yeast. This extended oak conditioning lends a tart edge and an ultra woody depth to the beer’s deep cherry character.
After blending beers from 120 different Friek-dedicated barrels, Odell’s cellarmasters add fresh, Colorado-grown raspberries. Tart cherry flavor at the front makes your taste buds pucker, before giving way to raspberry sweetness and subtle oakiness in the finish. It’s two old-school Sour styles coming together to create something funky-fresh and FRIEKY delicious.
Over the years, more than 20,000 sour fans have returned to Odell for every release of this GABF Gold-winning Sour, consistently scoring vintages above 4.00 on Untappd. Luckily, we managed to secure a stash of bottles before Colorado craft lovers snatched up the entire 2018 release.
You know what’s good? Freakin’ cherries. Know what else? Freakin’ raspberries. Put them together with Odell’s barrel-aging expertise, and it’s Frieky-fruity gold.
