About This Beer
What makes this bottle so special? Let’s start with…
American Hops! Most hop varieties trace their origins back to Europe, but we have our own native hops on this side of the pond, too. If you want to sound fancy you can call them Humulus Lupulus var. neomexicanus, but you might already know them as Zappa. These rare cones impart mild woodiness and ripe plum flavors that beautifully complement the vinous notes in…
Wine Barrel Aged Sour Ale! The crew at TrimTab first blended a Red Saison with a Sour Golden Ale — both aged in fresh Zinfandel barrels — and then co-fermented the beer with a Saison yeast and conditioned it on real apricot.
Tasting Notes
As soon as you open the bottle you’ll notice big stonefruit aromas from the fruit, followed closely by the scent of mixed berries and a touch of herbal spice. The sip follows, with tangy, citrusy acidity and notes of lemongrass, raspberries, and plum. It all leads to a delightfully dry finish with a bit of oak. Brewmaster Luke Garner says “it almost reminds me of the last couple of bites of a popsicle, where the popsicle imparts a wood flavor.”
