About This Beer
Part of the barrel-aged Deep Wood series by Chicago legends Revolution, Gravedigger Billy is an old favorite from the brewery’s early days, highlighting the nuanced effects of oak and patience on a beer.
This not-at-all sinister Scotch Ale takes on delicately smoky nuances from time spent aging in American Oak Bourbon Barrels.
Tasting Notes
Rich notes of sticky toffee and dried fruit layer over charred oak, leather, and pipe tobacco in each complex sip. Barrel aging adds nuances of smooth vanilla, gentle spice, and a boozy bourbon warmth to this medium-bodied Ale. And at 14.2% ABV, if you drink enough of it, you’ll embarrass everyone with your terrible attempt at a brogue.

Scotch ales are a rarity for me with barrel aged ones even rarer so I had to sample. Impressive flavor profile, strong barrel and very boozy.

Good dark fruit notes. Barrel-aging created a very smooth finish.
