A Note on This Beer
Gather in close dark beer fans, there’s a secret ingredient in Stout’s richest, silkiest sub-genre: oysters! These sea-kissed delicacies are the magic behind Oyster Stouts, giving them a creamy mouthfeel and subtle minerality -- a total catch for sophisticated palates. Today’s beer is only the second of its kind featured on Tavour: Three Magnets Brewing Co.’s Hama Hama Oyster Tompkins.
To create this adventurous brew, the bold brewers at Three Mags started with their highly rated Imperial Oatmeal Stout before teaming up with the creme de la creme of the Washington oyster world -- Hama Hama; go to any classy oyster bar in Seattle and you’ll find they’re the most prestigious oyster on the menu.
Oyster Tompkins is rich, balanced, silky, and boozy with just the slightest touch of mineral character. Flavors of bitter chocolate, char, and French roast coffee linger on your palate, balanced by a hint of date sweetness. The 10.1% ABV slips by completely undetected, leaving you to bask in the glow of this delicious Stout.
Oyster Stouts are a challenge reserved for brewers who are ready to play with the big kids, and Three Mags has proven -- yet again -- that they’ve got the chops. Get a taste of one of craft’s most unusual styles done right. Or, if you’re feeling devious, give this beer to a friend and when they’re surprised by how smooth and sophisticated it is, let ‘em know how the Stout gets made!
