About This Beer
Drake’s boozy beer masters only release a batch of Headzo Bourbon and Port Barrel-Aged Strong Ale every TWO years!
It’s decadent, it’s complex, and man oh man is it boozy — every luxurious pour hides an 18.5% ABV. And while some describe Headzo as Barleywine-like, the brewer “often compares this beer to Port.”
He even goes so far to say that, “in reality, Headzo probably has more in common with Port than beer. It’s carbonated very low, and I suggest you drink it at room temperature, or at the very most, red wine temperature. Headzo is great as a nightcap or an after-dinner digestif. Pour it into small snifters, sip, and enjoy the hints of raisins, plums, and caramel.”
Tasting Notes
As soon as the tremendous 18.5% ABV pour reaches your lips, a drunken symphony of burnt brown sugar, opulent butterscotch, rich vanilla, and whiskey-soaked plums enrobes your palate like a warming crescendo.

so very tasty! the Port and bourbon WOWED me!!!

Despite some tasty, complex notes, this one was just too sweet for me. The
port barrels bear the bourbon barrels in the flavor fight.

like
a nice bourbon the rocks with water. Only a tad bit too sweet.

More like fortified wine than beer. I am dumbfounded that this exists. I really expected a thick, dark malty stout… and it was not that at all. surprisingly clear and lighter mouthfeel, but you can really sense the proof. Definitely drink it from like a sherry glass - something small, unlike the picture, which is a terrible idea.

big flavor - caramel, burnt sugar and the port comes through. just too sweet

this beer is making me realize, above about 14-ish percent, it's not a beer it's really a barley based cordial. Some brewers know how to lean into this, some don't. for something like a cordial, very very good. port and bourbon play particularly well together.

Vanilla, caramel, molasses, and touch of coconut and dark chocolate. Smooth with rich fig caramel raisin. Warming finish. Carbonation nonexistent.

Smooth and bourbon-y. Really good.

This should and could be a good bw, but is way over the top in booziness. I’m guessing a decade in the cellar will change it’s attitude.
