A Note on This Beer
Heathen Brewing brings savage intensity to Scotland’s booziest style, the Wee Heavy, with the dark chocolate and cherry smashing 2017 editions of their Highland Charge and the bourbon fueled Barrel-Aged version:
Highland Charge - A furious, 10% ABV blend of caramel, cocoa, and black cherry-coated shortbread flavors, Highland Charge drinks like a top-shelf Twix bar on steroids. Heathen unleashes eye-opening notes of cocoa nibs from Chocolate and Black Malts, while Double Roasted Crystal Malts dish out brulee-like burnt sugar richness. Scottish Ale yeast ushers in fruity balance with a cherry stamp and echoes of dried Italian plums.
Barrel Aged Highland Charge - Aged 8 months in bourbon barrels to an 11% ABV, this version elevates with the vanilla-sweet heat of American whiskey. Caramelized character takes a front row seat, amplifying the experience like a boozy butterscotch cocktail. Chocolate character is more subtle, the body lighter, but make no mistake - this isn’t for the faint of heart.
Brewed with enough dark flavor intensity to fuel anyone’s battle rage, Highland Charge and its barrel-aged companion are icons of Heathen’s loud and proud lineup of brews. Just released at their Vancouver, Washington taproom this week, the only place you’ll get them outside of the Northwest is right here.
