A Note on This Beer
Don’t be surprised if your nosy beer-loving neighbors swarm your door looking for a taste of today’s Hive Alive Still Honey Ale from Strange Roots Experimental Ales.
Ever since Thrillist declared these guys an Essential Pittsburgh Brewery, the craft hives are humming about Strange Roots’ highly limited treats like today’s boozy honey beer. We got a small stash of it a few weeks ago, and it sold out in just 17 hours!
So if you missed that, here’s one more chance to get your hands on Hive Alive. Just tell any hovering neighbors to buzz off — this 17.3% ABV sipper is all yours!
Each velvety mouthful sends your palate fluttering into honey heaven. That’s bee-cause Strange Roots crafted their mead-like Still Ale with copious amounts of real orange blossom honey and malted barley!
And that’s drizzled on top of an already-smooth Pilsner malt base, resinous hops, and Pennsylvania Wild Yeast for just a touch of funk.
Wait for after dinner and cozy up on the couch to sip on Hive Alive. Between its sherry-like consistency, un-bee-leviable spring meadow flavors, and mind-buzzingly high ABV, you’ll be completely relaxed in no time.
Like top-shelf organic honey from your fanciest neighborhood grocery store, this brew drips with earth tones, florals, and sugar cookie-like sweetness. All the while, gentle stings of apricot and orange citrus keep the experience from from becoming too cloying.
Strange Roots also kept this brew 100% still to avoid diluting any of the flavors with carbonation. And because this year’s Hive Alive vintage didn’t get oaked up in barrels like previous versions, the honey’s fruity-floral character is the queen bee of every sip.
You’ll be tempted to tell your friends about this boozy bugger’s complexity, but don’t forget that you already had to shoo away your neighbors. Strange Roots’ limited brews don’t fly out of PA ‘cept through Tavour, and we can’t guarantee there’ll bee any Hive Alive left anywhere once this sweet stash runs out.
