A Note on This Beer
A mere 4 barrels of Hive Alive: Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrel Aged were ever made, making it exceptionally rare among Strange Roots’ already hyper-limited lineup.
The sweet nectar is a rare delicacy unlike any other, but the crew had to visit a Maple Syrup Farm first to get just the right barrels for the job.
What’s a Maple Syrup Farm like? Imagine wide, open spaces with free-range barrels full of pure, sticky maple roaming among rolling fields.
Watching the syrup barrels meander about the fields like plump cattle, they spotted a handful with the right age, whiskey-laden history, and the mark of American Oak. They cut a deal with the farmer and off they went.
Alright, maybe Maple Syrup farms aren’t actually like this at all. But this crew really did up the ante when they chose to age their 4.12 UT-rated Hive Alive Still Honey Ale in these barrels!
Sourced from Kentucky where they spent 5 years aging Bourbons, the barrels were then used to age Maple Syrup for a whole year on the farm. Now, aging Hive Alive for 6 months in these Maple Syrup Bourbon Barrels has imbued today’s 18.6% ABV brew with heavenly notes of cinnamon and bourbon toffee.
And that’s on top of the gentle streams of apricot and orange citrus from the locally-sourced orange blossom honey of the base beer!
Every Moscato-like mouthful of Hive Alive Maple Bourbon tastes like a homemade caramel maple candy with a drizzle of honey: velvety, smooth, and sticky-sweet. From nose to toes, this boozy bugger is a Dessert Beer fiend’s dream come true.
