A Note on This Beer

Ever noticed how every hipster these days looks just like a lumberjack? We’re talking plaid shirt, bushy beard, scruffy jeans . . . oh, and a Hazy IPA in hand.

But, if one of those lumberjack-lookin’ bros was actually asked to cut down a tree, they’d probably just stare at you, blank-faced. They’re nothin’ like the brawny mountain man on the label for today’s New England IPA, Hop Hackin’ Henry from Odd13 Brewing.

This guy has clearly cut down his share of trees, and he’s so buff that he could probably do it with a pocket knife!

And, just like the label, the flavor of this bodacious brew ain’t for the faint of heart! A powerful blend of Eureka, Simcoe, and Idaho 7 Hops envelops your tongue with robust notes of juicy tangerines, ripe apricots, and tangy grapefruit zest. There’s a whisper of resinous pine and black pepper on the nose, and the finish is clean, smooth, and — dare I say — sweet.

Clearly, Hop Hackin’ Henry is really a big ol’ teddy bear.

Fans of this deceptively cuddly lumberjack are singing its hazy praises, raving:

  • “Sweet, fruity, slightly dank nose. Delightfully chewy, quite clean. Overall superb.” @Mark D.
  • “I love the aftertaste and how light the hops are...” @Dave J.
  • “Very nice. I’d drink it again...and again...and again...” @Brandon J.

We agree, Brandon J.! We, too, could go back to this brew as many times as a thirsty Energizer Bunny. And, while we can’t guarantee that this beer will make you want to sell your possessions, move to a cabin in the mountains, and start living off the land — at least you’ll look like a tough guy drinking it. No beard required.

Unique beer. First sip I wasn’t so sure...but it grew on me. Slightly bitter finish.

A straight up malt monster. I prefer my IPAs a bit more dank and citrusy, but it was a pleasant experience. Super sweet and solid beer.

I usually stay away from Simcoe hops but this wasn’t too piney and was quite enjoyable

Nice citrusy aromas with a hint of earthy pine. Smooth mouthfeel with tangerine and herbal notes. Overall, solid and tasty.
