A Note on This Beer
116 hoppy beers. 20 certified beer judges. At Reuben’s Brews’ annual homebrew competition, there can only be one Hop Idol!
The winner gets their recipe brewed up by the GABF-dominating Seattle stars at Reuben’s -- and this year’s champion is Alex Kuyper’s pillowy soft, orange creamsicle-like Hazy IPA!
With their highly traded and sought-after Crush Series, Reuben’s know their haze, so Kuyper’s recipe is truly the top of the hazy crop. Untappd user @Arrowhead P. describes it as “papaya fruit snacks” -- its tropical fruitiness and crushability wowed the panel of judges more than any other entry (and that speaks volumes, since it was pitted against hop-forward brews of all persuasions -- Pale Ales, American IPAs, Triple IPAs, and even Hoppy Wheat Beers!). That’s gonna be a YES for me, dawg.
An easy-going 6.5% ABV, a velvety smooth mouthfeel, and bright juicy hop notes of Hop Idol has us singing praises of this winner too. And since Reuben’s coveted hazies don’t usually make it out of the Northwest, now’s your chance to taste the precious hop flavors that these decorated Seattle brewers idolize.
