A Note on This Beer

Golden Nugget IPA effectively launched Toppling Goliath to craft beer superstardom. Yet, not one drop of that juicy nectar has come off their production line since 2019.

Until now!

Today’s Imperial Golden Nugget marks the long-awaited return of TG’s breakthrough IPA. Only this time, the Decorah, Iowa-based brewery beefed it up with more Simcoe and Amarillo Hops, and a rowdy 8% ABV!

Invigorating aromas of fresh pine billow up from the straw-golden pour. On the first sip, silky waves of hazy juice carry flavors of navel oranges, ripe pineapple, and bursting berries, with a touch of grapefruit pith in the middle. A sweet caramel taste mixes with hints of grass on the finish.

The story goes that TG made the original Golden Nugget after a faithful fan walked into the taproom and said, “I’ve got a front-yard filled with sticky hops right next door, do you want ‘em?” Co-founder Clark Lewey gladly took them off his hands, crafted that famous hopbomb, and the rest is history.

Daily corona battle. TG on a honkin’ hot day edition. This pineapple and dank, touch of sweet and piney on the finish. Glad to get to have this TG throwback!

Definitely a juicy IPA almost in the NE style but did taste the piney resin after taste that distinguishes it as a a west coast IPA without a silky smooth malt bill.

16oz can from Tavour. Golden colored pour, hazy, one finger airy head. Aroma seems tame, bready malts, light orange. Taste is mellow, full malty flavors, hint of citrus, but there's something hiding in the back, a bit of sharp hoppiness that slowly emerges. Pretty approachable for a DIPA, but there's some hidden strength in there. Easy drinker.
