A Note on This Beer

On Source Brewing’s opening day, herds of beer lovers showed up in such large numbers, the brewery had to start offering free valet service to take peoples’ cars off-site!

Perhaps it’s the authentic farm-to-glass experience that got people excited. Or, maybe it’s brewery owner Philip Petracca’s appearance on Shark Tank with his home beer-dispensing invention that sparked the hype.

Whatever the driving force, craft fans knew that high-quality brews would be pouring out of this barn-turned-brewery.

To this day, the excitement has stayed at a fever pitch! Especially when you’re talking about beers like Java & Oats: Nitro Oatmeal Coffee Stout.

Every sip of this latte-inspired delicacy tastes just like an expertly-crafted oat milk cappuccino topped with healthy doses of plush foam and rich chocolate shavings.

That’s because Philip and the team used Costa Rican coffee beans from their friends at Rojo Roastery, on top of Source’s toasty, chocolatey, Oatmeal Stout base!

And, thanks to Java & Oats’ nitro pour, it’s spectacularly smooth. Each sip shimmers with hints of candied almonds, graham crackers, semi-sweet chocolate, and expertly crafted cold brew coffee. The aroma? Reminiscent of that first glorious step into your favorite coffee joint!

Now, only one question remains: are you ready to hop aboard the Source hype-train with this nitro cup of Joe?

*In order to enjoy properly, the brewers recommend you do the “Smash Pour.” Start by lightly shaking the can side to side three times. Next, crack open the can, and pour into the glass at an 180 degree angle. Finally, let the foam cascade and settle before drinking! More of a visual learner? A light and refreshing take on coffee stout. The cold brew taste is so delicate and perfect made even smoother with nitro. I wouldn't mind having it with eggs for breakfast!

Super creamy stout. Not too sweet, subtly flavored. Wish ABV was a bit higher for this heavier brew

A good stout with coffee notes and crisp finish. Missing the silky sweetness of oats but still decent. *If familiar with Smog City, it's like a light version of their Coffee Porter.

Ordered from Tavour, chilled and poured into an imperial pint glass. Look: dark brown, almost black. Hard poured and left a finger and a half light tan head that left almost no foam or lacing as the beer warmed. Smell: sweet day old coffee, light roast Taste: watery up front, followed by a light bitter note, watered down day old coffee, sweet roast that die into a watered down beer aftertaste Feel: light feel with water after that really just kills any after feel fullness or flavor Eh- that kind of beer.Java? Maybe a little. Oats? Uh, NO... stout? Not a chance. I would rather drink something else. Not a good beer. If you like a stout you don’t have to chew on, perhaps this one is for you... me, not so much... Cheers? Sorry, its hard to cheers with bad beer...

Coffee is profound on the nose and palate. Head consistently is not consistent with a nitro pour. This is more like a Coffee porter than a stout.

Nice grain taste of coffee and chocolate. Not sweet at all, but a very classic stout.

It's a good stout. Not a great stout, but a good one. It is certainly lacking the silky sweetness of oats that I expected.

Smooth, refreshing, and full. The coffee adds very light finish to balance well with the full body of the oats. This beer is a perfect winter stout that leaves a smile on my face.

Could use a little more sweetness from the oats, but this goes perfect with a hearty breakfast.

Good, not great. Mostly get the oatmeal stout. The java and chocolate flavor is extremely light.

Great beer. The Nitro made this incredibly drinkable and creamy. Super toasty coffee with a mild roasty bitterness. Semisweet between the roasted Malts and coffee and implied sweetness from both. Great dark chocolate notes. Only thing keeping this from being a perfect beer is the mild acrid notes on the finish. This will definitely get dialed into perfection and the beer should not be ignored in future batches. Absolutely great beer
