A Note on This Beer

Today’s 4.34 UT-Rated Guava, Passionfruit, and Apricot smoothie Sour tastes just like my favorite tangy treat: the Caribbean Paradise Jamba Juice!

Anytime I need a little pick-me-up, it’s my go-to. So, you can only imagine the size of my smile after a few silky swigs of this Jamba-like dewey delight!

The brewers at BlackStack crammed so much fresh guava, passionfruit, apricot, and creamy milk sugar into this drippy drink, it pours insanely thick.

And, on top of all that tang, their signature Foeder-Fermented Mixed Culture Berliner base boasts a bit of lip-puckering complexity that rounds out the fruity-sweetness.

With all of you smoothie-fiends on the app, it’s no wonder that the last time we shared a brew from the Ken Burns Presents series, it skipped off the app in less than 24 hours.

So, if this batch of juicy, boozy goodness does the same, all we can do is cross our fingers that we get some more Ken Burns Presents someday! Although I’ll be honest, I’m not sure when that’ll be!

Ordered from Tavour and chilled. Poured into an imperial pint glass. Look: brownish yellow with a small finger sized light creamy head with large bubbles that dissipated quickly and left no lacing. The purée was thick looking and created an intense purée look. Smell: Intense smell of guava and passion fruit with some underlying notes of apricot. The funk of the fruit together make it smell like a fruit smoothy juice like a V8 fruit juice. Taste: Taste follows the smell. Up front there is an intense guava and passion fruit flavor, following is intense sour with notes of apricot that linger for a while. Interesting combination of flavors that almost get some funk in the mid palate. There is no hop presence and no booze. Feel: The sour fruit notes make this medium body beer feel more full than it actually is. The lactose makes it feel thicker and helps the sour chase easier. There is a moderate tickle of carbonation. Interesting smoothy beer. The intense sour provides a serious pucker factor. Watching Bren drink this was funny with the sour beer face she had going. The combination of fruit flavors make this a bit funky on the back palate and we are undecided if we like the funk. Cheers everyone!

Starts off with a good mixture of passion fruit mixed with guava and after you get a slight taste of apricot. Towards the end I got a slight taste of spoiled milk but it wasn’t too strong the sour base took over. It’s definitely way more sour than sweet.
