About This Beer
In Dante’s Inferno, the river Kokytus is a freezing place where lost souls become trapped. But if it were filled with Kokytus Rye Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout, we’d happily spend eternity there. This decadent brew is one of the most sought-after beers the World Beer Cup winners at Martin House produce. Cacao nibs introduce chocolatey currents for a smooth, luxurious brew that might as well be called Paradiso.
Tasting Notes
Layers of rich dark chocolate that mingle with hints of barrel char, roast coffee, and warm Rye whiskey. On the finish, look for nuances of oaky vanilla and toffee.

Fairly light taste for a BA stout almost a porter like beer. I enjoyed it.

This is so good, can I give it 10 stars? Hints or chocolate, dark roast coffee, vanilla. Creamy body, just right balance of bitterness and sweetness.

Outstanding

Great barrel on a nice big roasty stout. Lacking a little in the complexity department

Smooth, surprisingly light on the tongue.

A perfect stout

Quite tasty, body is a little thin for its ABV and it is a bit hot, but that will likely smooth out with some age.

Now BA Stouts are my wheelhouse beers! I am biased with this video review! https://www.facebook.com/486484501744425/posts/1271354496590751/?extid=ONFOrARMBVdu2ePi&d=n

A fantastic Stout.

Chocolatey, roasty, sultry dark goodness.

Very thick and big notes of cocoa. Not a bad stout.

Tastes of over roasted coffee, bringing a harshness that over powers the rest of the beer. Drinkable, but not worth the price point.

Wow!! Thick and rich and absolutely delicious. Just a hint of whiskey blended with smooth chocolate. Sat outside by a fire - this was the perfect beer on a cool night

Lighter body than I hope for, but still good.

Absolutely delicious! You can certainly taste the notes of chocolate and roasted coffee, although the mouthfeel is remarkably thinner than what I would have expected from such a high ABV stout. Still, an excellent option to sip and savor throughout the evening.

Rich stout with warming rye whiskey. Chocolate lingers in background.

a very pleasant stout.

There's a lot of barrel in this beer's flavor. Chocolate notes as well, but they take a back seat. Looking forward to cellaring the other can.

This was a complete miss for me. My can tasted like metal. IDK what happened, but everyone has great reviews of this beer. I hope it was just me that had a bad one. Guess I’ll have to re evaluate with the second.

Wonderfully complex and rich.

right up my alley

rich, boozy, fantastic

For only having spent 4 months in barrels, this swill collected a ton of barrel flavor & a surprising 14% ABV. Medium thickness & a bitter chocolate base give way to every thing whiskey, including a signature burn.

not one of my favorites from Martin House. very subtle chocolate flavor, mainly booze here. this brewery usually incorporates a lot of flavors as advertised in their stouts but not so much here. very light cocoa nibs.

every single release from Martin House has been a solid 4.5 or better

Pleasant yet subtle choclate notes with a warm and powerful rye finish!

Fascinating beer. Great aroma with peppery notes. Palate has lots of the rye in it, spicy with a bite but the mouthfeel is silky with mid- body. Long finish feeling the alcohol makes you wonder if you want another sip or take a moment.
3.25
Loads of barrel character but the whiskey overwhelms on this one. I was unable to finish both cans, regrettably.
4.0
Slight bitterness from the rye. Subtle chocolate notes smooth it out.

it was ok not what I expected

A little different from the BA stouts I’m used to. Smokey and almost savory. Warm barrel feeling with brown sugar and smokey chocolate with almost a smoked pork in the background. Not bad but definitely something different.

chocolate and barrel. yum.

Warm: this is not for the faint of heart. A roch chocolatey boozy drink that is sure to put hair on your chest. With waves of chocolate that blends with a strong boozy flavor that lingers on the tastebuds and in the nostrils. Plus an awesome can and box!
