A Note on This Beer
For the 2021 release of Kriek, Alesong molded their Lambic-inspired beer in the Belgian tradition by using “mountains” of whole cherries — just like those European masters used to do!
Alesong also made this Kriek their very own by adding a distinct, Pacific Northwest spin. They used cherries grown near Hood River for a taste of Oregon terroir. And, new for 2021, the brewers finished it on rich vanilla for a touch of natural sweetness!
Many modern brewers choose to simply use cherry juice to flavor their Krieks, but Alesong kept the cherries intact during the maturation process.
This imparts a deep, stone-fruit juiciness and hints of nutty almond to the dry and effervescent Brett Saison and Blonde Sour base. Every sip flows with cascades of sweet and sour cherry complexity!
With its sumptuous blend of real PNW cherry and vanilla, there’s a subtle nuance of fresh-baked cherry pie to every sip, elevated by dimensions of funky tang. Plus, a whisper of warm oakiness comes through on the finish from aging in French oak barrels.
Usually, you’d have to live in Oregon for a chance to try this vermillion-hued beauty. But today, snagging a sip is as easy as putting a bottle or two in your crate!
Alesong just made 2 of Sip magazine’s Top 10 Oregon Beers for 2020, and won Gold for Wood and Barrel-Aged Sour Beer at the 2020 Best of Craft Beer Awards!
