A Note on This Beer
Today’s beer from Side Project is the #12 Old Ale in the World on BeerAdvocate. It’s called Längst, and it’s a malty masterpiece!
Harkening back to a forgotten style that originated in Dortmund, Germany 200 years ago, Längst is an exemplary offering in the style with a massive 4.38 UT-rating!
To craft it, the world class crew started with seven different German malts, and fermented the base beer with a fruity yeast strain for dried fruit, chocolate, and caramel flavors. Then, they aged it for 18 months in 6-year-old Buffalo Trace Bourbon Barrels, introducing sweet vanilla and charred oak compliments. Finally, as per tradition, Längst was bottled almost still.
Each sumptuously thick sip is indulgently rich and dense, overflowing with brown sugar-like sweetness and a woody, bourbon refinement. The 12% ABV is nearly undetectable.
Alas, we only have 10 cases of this opulent Old Ale to go around. So, if you’d like to impress your friends with this rare style made by the #13 Best Brewery in the World on Untappd, better click quick!
