This crew is renowned for their hyper focus on funky, barrel-aged brews. So much so that Forbes and PorchDrinking.com rightfully call them one of the Best Breweries in Illinois.

Une Année’s barrel-aged Le Grand Monde series is like the fruity pinnacle of their lip-pursing repertoire. All 25 of the previous releases clock 4+ ratings on Untappd! And, today’s 2020-5 and 2020-8 versions keep that tradition going strong.

Le Grand Monde 2020-5 — 7% ABV

Stepping on the scene with an outstanding 4.23 Untappd rating, Le Grand Monde 2020-5 promises to impress.

The brewers at Une Année aged this Wild Ale for 15 months in wine barrels with a whole mountain of real pineapple, guava, mango, and passion fruit! Each sip bursts with tropical fruity sweetness right upfront before quickly transitioning into a ripe, lemony pucker with a splendid kiss of earthy funk.

The tartness on this bright and bubbly beast is perfect for fans of Sours and Wild Ales — @Rick S. says “I just puckered so hard, I swallowed my lips.” Which may sound frightening for inexperienced tasters, but for lovers of the tart n’ funky brews, that’s exactly how they like it.

Le Grand Monde 2020-8 — 7% ABV

Le Grand Monde 2020-8 is straight up strawberry lemonade in a beer bottle. No kidding!

To make it, the brewers aged their Blonde mixed-culture base beer in wine barrels for 10 months — a shorter time than most of the other releases in the series — on whopping additions of fresh strawberries. The shorter time in barrels means the beer can soak up more of the berries’ flavors without being overwhelmed by the woody-vanilla character of the oak.

Once the beer soaked up enough berry juice, the brewers added freshly chopped lemons to amp up the sour-power. Then, they gave just a touch of lemon zest bitterness to complement the jammy sweetness of the strawberries. 

One taster calls it “the perfect lemonade, sweet and sour in balance, zesty.” With its rockin’ 4.28 Untappd score, you can probably just call it “a damn fine Wild Ale.”

Each release in Une Année’s Le Grand Monde series is notoriously small-batch. So, you tart beer lovers better act now, and act quickly — we have only 160 bottles of each to share!
