A Note on This Beer
I love the freakin’ Doors, man. That’s why I got so excited when I saw today’s 95/100 BA-rated Lizard King American Pale Ale. It shares its name with singer Jim Morrison’s alter ego!
One sip and I feel like a rockstar.
Not just because it’s one of the Top 30 American Pale Ales on BeerAdvocate, or because Pipeworks is one of Beer and Brewing’s Breakout Breweries.
No, it makes me feel like a rockstar because it’s smoother than a funked out bassline and its dose of Mosaic Hops tastes fruitier than a backstage buffet. Plus, it can’t be found outside of Illinois, so drinking one is kinda like visiting Chicago on tour.
Crack open the can and tropical mandarin aromas come screaming out like a cranked up guitar solo. Take a sip, and thumping notes of mango, melon, and juicy orange bounce around the tastebuds like John Densmore wailing on his drums. It finishes dry, with a hint of tangy citrus echoing across the palate, like 10,000 of your biggest fans screaming for an encore.
You’ll probably never play a sold-out show like Jim Morrison. But you’ll also probably never get arrested for lewd conduct on the Sunset Strip or get knocked out with a bottle by Janis Joplin, both of which actually happened to Jim.
Probably best to hang out with your buddies, crank up some tunes, tip back a couple cold ones, and just FEEL like rockstars.
Rated 95/100 on BeerAdvocate — one of the Top 30 American Pale Ales!
