About This Beer

When The Beer Connoisseur named Wild Leap the Brewery of the Year for 2021, Lone Buffalo led that charge with a “world-class” 97/100 rating.

What makes this luxurious brew stand out? A LOT of love and attention! To quote The Beer Connoisseur, “in order to deliver a quality barrel-aged Imperial Stout, it is paramount to have a superior base beer…undeniably the case here.”

Alongside that “superior base,” the Georgia crew hand-selected the best Heaven Hill bourbon barrels and let the beer age for over a year. The brewers went so far as to transfer and condition each single barrel in its own fermenter before hand bottling and labeling every one!

Tasting Notes

Rich, roasty cocoa cascades into silky vanilla, treacly caramel, and decadent dark fruits on every sip, with whispers of oak rising on the finish.

I think it's the sweet/mild milk stout base that lowers it .25 for me. I personally would like it more if it were slightly more rough/bitter & Oakey. It's balanced, which is a huge plus in my book for BBA. And you can taste the oak in it too.

A touch sweet but the booziness of the barrel really pulled it together for me. I can’t express how much I hate wax dipping, but I’m a sucker for handwritten info on the label so it balanced out.

I seem to like this more than most people. It’s more of an old school barrel aged stout but it allows the bourbon & barrel to shine through with the stout flavor. I think it’s well done done.

Great caramel and chocolate notes. Bourbon barrel aging is well blended and works well with the stout base.

Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, and vanilla. Thick, smooth mouthfeel that takes on booze as it warms. Sweet, more chocolate and bourbon, warming and quite tasty.

This was thinner than I thought it would be for that high abv, but it was balanced very well.
