A Note on This Beer
When we popped the top on Anchorage Brewing’s Love Buzz Mosaic Dry-Hopped Saison with Brett, we were blown away by all the flavors… and perplexed.
One of our tasters was pleasantly surprised by layers of sour Brett funk. Another was happily caught off guard by notes of wine grapes and oak. A third couldn’t stop talking about peppercorns and spice. And they were all right!
Because beers as complex as this Saison reveal themselves differently based on a host of factors -- from the glassware to the serving temperature to who’s doing the tasting. It’s a magical depth that you only experience with hand crafted beers from highly skilled brewers like Gabe Fletcher of Anchorage.
If you want to be entertained at your next gathering, give two people a taste of Love Buzz, ask them what they taste, and then watch them argue about it.
It was definitely entertaining when we did it!
One of our tasters thought Love Buzz Mosaic smelled like rose water, exploding with waves of floral flavor, from lavender to lily. Another insisted it was all about the funk from Foeder fermentation. Another thought the peppercorns and citrus zestiness were far more present and the spice notes took center stage along with tart Saison Yeast.
It’s no wonder Love Buzz inspires so much tasting controversy. It’s loaded with rose hips, peppercorns, and fresh orange peel, and fermented in French Oak Fouders with Saison Yeast. Then it’s fermented again in Pinot Noir barrels with Brettanomyces. Finally, it’s bottle conditioned with wine yeast for natural carbonation, and generously dry-hopped with bright Mosaic.
That’s the kind of patient, innovative brewing that put Anchorage on the craft map, and Love Buzz has it on full display!
There’s so much going on in Love Buzz Mosaic, everyone can pinpoint something intriguing. Tasting it with a few friends is bound to spark a lively debate at your next bottle share -- that’s what makes it so much fun!
