A Note on This Beer
Ninkasi Brewing is cultishly admired throughout the Pacific Northwest because of their trademark burst of aggressive hopping. Worship of them reaches a fever pitch in the summer with the release of their bright, light, yet densely dank Maiden the Shade IPA.
Combining herbal qualities of cannabis with a built-for-summer light body, the Maiden continues it’s seven year reign as a favorite source of hops in hot weather. Ninkasi intentionally saturates this IPA with seven types of aromatic hops to give of the impression of grapefruit and dank weed so indulgent, it ought to be illegal. All this comes backed by a quenching light malt palate that cools you to the core like a jump into a shady watering hole.
Herbal cannabinoids seem to float up from the brim so readily we need to make a CAVEAT: THIS BEER CONTAINS NO CANNABIS/MARIJUANA/OR SYNTHETIC FACSIMILE. Ninkasi conspires to trick the palate with a grapefruity dank, pine resinous herbal melange. Blame the Simcoe Hops for their pungent dankness and Crystal Hops for it’s undeniable herbal spice. A light malting finishes it off, dissolving any thirst on your tongue with an invigorating gracious fizz.
Whether it’s because of its renowned hop legend status or unique range of "herbal flavor," Ninkasi’s Maiden the Shade is an indispensable part of every summer for Pacific Northwesterners. Come join in on this long established NW tradition. We’re talking about the beer.
