A Note on This Beer

The flavor wizards at Fair State Brewing Cooperative and their buddies over at Pulpit Rock Brewing say that today’s beastly Stout was “inspired by rum drinks.”

I know what you’re thinking – this is a 12% ABV Imperial Stout!! How is it anything like those hurricanes or rum runners that got me all loopy that one year at Mardi Gras?

Well, let me assure you that this boozy behemoth is something much more spectacular – not to mention, far more sophisticated. The brewers infused Main Boss with coconut, vanilla beans, molasses, almond, and bitter orange, layering it in rich decadence with a tropical aura. Fair State also added orgeat – their housemade almond-citrus syrup – for extra sultry complexity!

Let the luscious brew linger on the tongue, and, sure enough, this treat brims with notes of dark spiced rum elegance.

Forget those poor-decision rum drinks of Mardi Gras – Main Boss is the leveled-up version!

*Men’s Journal places Fair State’s tasty creations on their list of 50 Best Craft Beers in the U.S.!

With Tavour, it's easy to beer it forward! Just head over to Tavour.com/gifts to send a gift box or gift card to the craft beer lover in your life. Cheers!

Maple, thick, not overly sweet, not to roasty either. Not bad, couldn't drink more than one in a sitting though.

That THICC almond stout be hitting hard. Very nice to drink as a dessert drink at the end of the night. Not crazy sweet, just right for me.

I’d say it definitely lived up to its name “Main Boss.” It’s not exactly my cup of tea which is why my score reflects it but I would highly recommend it to those that are fans of stouts

I got a lot of the thick molasses goodness that was promised. Can’t complain about getting this one. Cheers to the Main Boss

Tastes great wish I had bought a few more. Not too sweet, love the almond flavor coming through at the end.

Thiccc like Hershey’s chocolate syrup. Smooth molasses and a kick of booze make this an amazing pastry stout. While I enjoy a sweet stout this was a little too sweet for me, but it does everything they set out to do when they brewed this boss up.

Was a pretty good stout at the end of the can. Nice and heavy in content. I’m just not much of a stout guy. Description raised my interest. Will probably go with sometime more basic next time around

16oz can from Tavour. Black oil slick of a pour, a few bubbles, then still. Rum, coconut, chocolate make up the aroma. Taste is chocolate and sweet, coconut, rum notes. Slick and creamy. And the burn, yea, you can't forget that. While the aroma can seem harsh, the taste is much smoother.

Very sweet. Booze forward with molasses and coconut to follow and finished with a citric astringency.

I love stouts, but this flavor profile was off. I don’t think the coconut went with it.

It was different and not in a bad way. Just didn’t seem as some of the ingredients mixed. Felt as if each flavor was independent and not completely blended together. Still a good stout, just different.

Like the mouth feel. Doesn’t taste like it’s 12%, very drinkable. Almost like a palate cleansing after dinner brandy. Chocolate chestnut goodness!!! It is 12% though so recommended small pours.

Although I can taste all of the flavors stated, the ABV is just too much and overpowering. It burns going down, which I don't like in my beer

12% of smooth coconut, almond goodness. A beer I don’t want to have to share. Also- a great beer for fighting bosses in Borderlands 3. I wish I lived in MN to join the collaborative. Reviewed live at twitch.tv/brewedforgaming.

Sweet orange and molasses flavor leads off. The rum follows closely behind raising awareness like a hurricane! Medicinal aftertaste is a little off-putting.
