A Note on This Beer

“You know those nights on vacation where you just want one more cocktail, but then that one more cocktail has an umbrella and pineapple on it, and you’re like, ‘let’s have five more of those?’”

Yes, BlackStack and Drekker, we do know. And, we know how the following morning feels! But, this time around, we’re going to Make Good Choices and crack open a can of this sessionable tropical-cocktail collab instead!

The dexterous duo conditions their foeder fermented Berliner base on “obscene amounts” of fresh strawberries, pineapples, coconut flakes, milk sugar, vanilla, and “so so much” Coconut Cream. The result is truly reminiscent of a well-made Miami Vice (half pina colada, half-strawberry daiquiri)!

With each silky-smooth swig, soft swells of strawberry mingle with tangy blasts of pineapple. On the finish, a hint of coconutty sweetness tip-toes across the taste buds, followed by a refreshing bit of funky complexity from the mixed-culture base.

The notes were not as defined as what you would typically expect from Drekker but this is a really refreshing beer. This Drekker still holds its own compared to other fruit beers

It had an unusual filmy texture. The taste was also a little off for me. It just reminded me of a sour and smokey brown sugar honey pineapple ham. Yes, ham. I love Drekker, but something went wrong in this collab in my opinion. But if you like sour drinks, give a try!

This smoothie sour wasn't as thick as others I've tried, which was actually the most appealing thing to me about this beer. Not extremely sour, but a pretty tasty Berliner Base. It has a true to taste description: you taste the coconut milk mainly, alongside the pineapple with a hint of strawberry. Would love to have Drekker and Black Stack recreate this with orange and pineapple, giving an almost Orange Julius taste because they definitely won me over with this smoothie sour.

Not sure if my can went bad or if the beer is just that bad. I definitely hold Drekker to a high standard, but this fell massively short of expectations of any brewery.

Not very thick, taste is very satisfying. It has the flavor profile of a “Miami vice” cocktail and I feel like it represents that very well. Instead of getting hung up on the listed order of ingredients read the brewers notes to see what they are striving for. This is very sour and gets the job done.

Is it good? Yes, it’s tasty and sour and a wonderful blast of taste. Although not my favorite beer out of the bunch I received it was still good to enjoy, it was just a little too sour for my liking. Still a wonderful Sour.
