A Note on This Beer

Mr. Sandman, bring me a beer,

(Bung bung bung bung)

Fill it with cacao for plenty of cheer,

(Bung bung bung bung)

Give it vanilla and plenty of spice,

(Bung bung bung bung)

Then tell me every sip goes down so nice!

I don’t think the Chordettes were singing about River North Brewery’s Mayan Chocolate Mr. Sandman (2021) — but, after one sip, I sure am!

The Denver crew brought back the luscious, sweet n’ spicy, small batch variant of their esteemed Mr. Sandman Imperial Stout. It’s been over two years since the last songworthy release, and it went so fast that most Tavour members never even got a look, let alone a taste!

True to its name, Mayan Chocolate Mr. Sandman swirls with cacao nibs, vanilla beans, cinnamon, and chili peppers.

Melodies of rich, dark chocolate and bright, spicy undertones play with each sip. Creamy refrains of vanilla ebb and flow throughout each mouthful.

And, while singing out loud is totally natural when sipping, that 11.1% ABV can quickly shift the tune from barbershop bops to choco-late night lullabies.

It is called Mr. Sandman, after all!

*In a Paste Mag blind tasting, River North’s original Mr. Sandman was declared the #1 Imperial Stout in the World, beating out hundreds of other dark beer masters!

Tavour strictly supports independent beer. River North Brewery is certified independent by the Brewers Association

Solid stout. Definitely taste the chili’s and cinnamon. The chocolate is subtle so is different from a dessert stout.

This imperial stout for sure sends you off to dream about chocolate goodness, but it's the subtle heat you feel with each sip that makes this beer absolutely enchanting. I hate I did not order more!

can I call this crushable at 11%? either way I found it smooth and crushable - the chocolate and chili pepper flavors stick out most to me with the vanilla to smooth it out

subtle spice, smooth chocolate and cinnamon flavor. Flavors don't overpower each other.

phenomenal. strong chili pepper after taste that lingers throughout. mild cinnamon. good boozy stout. love the presence of the pepper. like that the stout vanilla booze dampens the cinnamon.

Mine was all spice, and when I say spice, it was peppers! No chocolate, vanilla, or cinnamon. was very disappointing!

False advertising. Tasted like ordinary beer. No chocolate and not much stout flavor. There was some obscure heat sensation that didn’t really work. I love Mexican style stout so this was very disappointing. Paste Magazine readers must be joking! Poured this out after a few sips. Ugh.

Cinnamon is too light. Some spicy lingers at the end. Stout base supports all of it, but the adjuncts don't match together well.
