About This Beer
The crew at The Ale Apothecary — a tiny, rustic brewery tucked into the mountains above Bend, Oregon — started by brewing a tangy Sour Amber Ale. They aged the brew in a single Mezcal foeder, then infused it cascara, the pulpy fruit of the ‘coffee cherry’ that surrounds the bean when it’s picked.
Tasting Notes
The results are sensational! Every tart sip brings malty nuances of dark bread, surrounded by notes of cut grass and lemon zest. Notes of rose hips, dried cherries, and hibiscus from the cascara add fruity and floral complexity, leading to an earthy finish with just a whisper of agave and the faintest suggestion of smoke.
