A Note on This Beer
Urban Family Brewing taste-tested over 30 different barrels to determine which was the jammiest vessel for today’s midnight purple, tart-berry Moon Path Sour Ale. The winner? French Wine barrels that complement the addition of real Oregon-grown blackberries and blackcurrants.
They chose the best barrels for the job according to fans on Untappd who are giving Moon Path a 4.14. These natural wine oak barrels enhance the berry notes with toasted almond and woody aromas. Then, hints of vanilla and sweet tobacco come together in a smooth, jammy mouthful. The accents from the barrel intensify Moon Path’s bright, berry preserve-like character that comes from adding over 1 pound-per-gallon of tangy fruit.
Untappd member @kyle562 calls out the other Sour stars of the Northwest when comparing Moon Path saying: “It’s a tie! This is as good as de Garde….substitute dark fruit (in Moon Path) for the light fruit (of de Garde).”
As you sip on Moon Path’s jam-tastic flavors, remember the French oak natural wine barrels that made it possible. Pay homage to how they’ve mellowed out the astringency to make its blackberry and blackcurrant juiciness enjoyable for any berry fan. And one small request, please don’t pour any out for the homies -- too much time and care went into making Moon Path a Barrel-Aged Fruit Sour that everyone can call their jam.
