A Note on This Beer
It’s easy to become mesmerized by the deep magenta pour of Cellador Ales’ Murex Oak Barrel-Aged Boysenberry Sour. Its color begs to be photographed, and as soon as beer geeks saw it on Instagram, the “Where do we find that?” questions came rolling in.
With a measly 200 cases in existence, the answer for most people outside of the taproom is: only through Tavour.
So, don’t wait to snag Murex because it tastes just as tart and juicy as it looks. It’s full-bodied, made with real boysenberries, and packed with jammy nuances of blackberries, raspberries, marionberries, dewberries, and blueberries.
The brewers blend six different Saison bases with the berries before it’s aged in oak barrels for up to 16 months. Taking in its damp wood and fruity Brett funk aromas, you’ll find yourself meditating in circular breathing and sipping rotation, contemplating its wild complexities.
With its gorgeous pour and intricate process, Murex’s bright boysenberry juiciness balanced by sophisticated dryness make it a Sour Ale that could only be described as brewing art.
