About This Beer
The Matchless crew brewed Ol’ Lifewine (2022) with a blend of four different specialty malts and East Kent Goldings Hops giving it a rich base layered with caramelized tones. Then they aged it in Westward whiskey barrels for a smoothly complex character — like drizzling a bread pudding with a shot of whiskey.
Tasting Notes
Malty notes of toffee, maple, and raisin ripple through this Barleywine, along with oaky tones of vanilla and tobacco in the finish. Its belly-warming 15% ABV makes Ol’ Lifewine an excellent choice after a rich meal.

Thick, syrupy but smooth for 15%. Could use some alcohol heat.

at first you are hit with a nice smooth taste of whiskey from the barrel, and am followed up with a sweet and tasty aftertaste of vanilla and more!

smooth, but wanting a little more bite from the booze and complexity

Interestingly I got prominent coconut rum staight off the bat. Transitioned into vanilla coke and whiskey;
pretty relentless spirit heat throughout. Brown sugar, toffee. 2021 was great, but for me this was not worth the price of admission down under

The Tavour description is excellent. The flavors are well balanced with none being over-powering. The ABV is not prominent, and kicks in nicely.

I found it too sweet for a barley
