A Note on This Beer

Few things are as exciting as discovering a new brewery with butt-kickin’ beer. It feels like being a biologist in the Amazon who just stumbled upon a colony of frogs with wings!

Which is why we’re so giddy about Mountains Walking. This small-town brewery cranks out some of the juiciest brews this side of the Mississippi, but they’re still super under-the-radar outside of Montana.

With beers like Opaque Thoughts with Mango, Strawberry, and Coconut, that’s all starting to change.

The first release of this tropical treat landed the #2 spot on Hop Culture’s 5 Favorite Milkshake IPAs in the country. And today’s brand-new version boasts even more hops and fruit than ever before!

With over 7 lbs of Citra, Mosaic, Sabro, and Belma Hops per barrel, on top of an ultra-soft base, this brew is just beginning to show off its big, fruity flavor.

The brewers condition Opaque Thoughts on “the perfectly balanced blend” of ripe strawberries, Alphonso mangoes, and coconut for a juicy bonanza! Finally, they give it a dose of Papua New Guinea vanilla beans and creamy lactose for that classic milkshake smoothness.

It’s a sweet, almost pulpy, fruited juicebomb that fans like @Big Thirsty admire: “Super balanced execution; all flavors share the stage equally. Another winner from Mountains Walking!”

He seems pretty stoked he discovered this craveable winner — as he should be! Discoveries as juicy as this deserve to be sung from the mountain tops!

Unfortunately a case of the Tavour shipment process ruining a good beer. Not picking up any of the fruit notes except maybe a bit of coconut. I’d gladly pay a few extra bucks for my beer to be shipped on ice. These types of beers must be kept cold to preserve the quality

It was easy to drink. Couldn't really taste much of the fruit notes. It's not bad, just nothing stood out for me.

Ah, this one made me sad. I had read other reviews stating that the beer didn’t travel well, and it looks like that happened to mine. Though the nose was this luscious party of fruit scents, the taste did not follow. I tasted very little fruit notes, and it was, as one reviewer mentioned, muddy. The taste was also unpleasantly bitter, outside of the expected IPA realms. Now, the body was absolutely lovely and it was very smooth. I wish I knew what this beer tastes like fresh- probably very different.

Unfortunate drain pour. Complete malty mess with no hop or fruit presence, poured huge chunks of yeast. I wish I was able to try this fresh but canned about 2.5 months ago and shipped over a few days in warm weather. Didn’t seem ideal from the start.

Mine was extremely bitter and almost undrinkable. From other reviews, it seems it may be due to issues with shipping. The artwork on the can is nice so at least there is that.

Every single fruit came through. The tropic mango tang, the berry compliment to aspects of the hops from those strawberries and then coconut?? The coconut knocked it over the top, adding this other creamy aspect that blended it all together very nicely. Bitter hop finish. Pretty flawless for me for something I thought would be a mess.
