With five wins at the Washington State Beer Awards, the just-opened Matchless Brewing is the hottest name in the Northwest. Just a couple of weeks ago their world-class Wild Saisons swept through the ceremony, emerging with super hype in the vein of Holy Mountain, Wicked Weed, and Russian River.
For our first taste of Matchless we go to their medal-winning foudre-aged and wild yeast infused Pink Moon Saison. Aged in massive oak tanks, Pink Moon has peach and nectarine depth that echos the best in America or Belgium.
Hazy royal yellow releases plumes of tangerine and grapefruit zest rounded out by wisps of vanilla oak. Apricots and pineapples tango, entwining under a canopy of peppery lemons. The raw wheat farmhouse bread of a Belgian-made Saison streaks through the background, giving it a fresh body. Chilling minerals of a ice-cold limestone-filtered spring water dry it out as it tails, awakening the senses with a splash.
Behind the excitement for Matchless lies the superb skill of Pat Jansen, the brewer that previously made Three Magnets Brewing the hottest up-and-coming brewer in Washington State, propelling them to GABF-winning expertise. A tried and true brewing wizard, Pat is following his own muse with the brand new Matchless Brewing and it’s yielding an instant hit with his Pink Moon Saison.
