A Note on This Beer
The first Saturday of every month, craft fiends from all over the Chicago area line up outside of a brick building in Batavia, Illinois.
And if you’re not there with ‘em, you won’t be enjoying any of the new releases from Energy City Brewing, because they’re only open to the public from 11-2, one day a month.
That’s it. If you’re searching for a new, limited-release brew from Energy City, be there or be square.
Yeah, you MIGHT be able to score a bottle if you’re willing to fly into the Windy City, rent a car, and drive from bottleshop to bottleshop with all your fingers crossed. But it’s not likely.
Especially when it comes to small-batch brews like today’s Poputchik Russian Imperial Stout!
And you definitely want a taste of this year's version. The lucky few who have tried it have already rated it a lofty 4.13 on Untappd. And it’s virtually guaranteed that none of your friends have even heard of Energy City yet, so you get to act all casual when you pull the bottle out.
Like, “What? You guys don’t know Energy City?”
They’ll probably act all nonchalant. Say something like, “Yeah, I think I’ve heard of ‘em.” But then they’ll try a sip, and their eyes will practically pop out of their heads.
As soon as you open the bottle, aromas of rich, dark chocolate and roasty coffee come billowing up. Take a sip, and it tastes like an iced mocha made with gourmet espresso and real cocoa with a drizzle of gooey caramel. Except, way better because it comes with a whopping 10% ABV!
Once you get a taste, you might find yourself agreeing with all the fans on Untappd, who are calling it “very tasty” and “one of the best RIS I’ve ever had!”
And you don’t even have to fly out to Illinois and spend the first Saturday of the month lined up in a parking lot.
Rated 4.13 on Untappd by those lucky enough to get a taste!
