A Note on This Beer

To secure a shiny Gold Medal for Best Pumpkin Ale at both GABF and World Beer Cup, the brewers at 4 Noses had to think outside of the gourd.

So they went to Great Pumpkin-sized proportions and added massive amounts of pumpkin puree to their succulent, seasonal sipper — Pump Action Imperial Pumpkin Ale!

The result is a creamy-bodied, liquified pumpkin pie-like beer reminiscent of Mom’s special recipe. With each luscious sip, notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, allspice, and pure pumpkin delight the palate.

After a swig or two, I’m feeling as giddy as a kid diggin’ into the famous dessert! Although, kids won’t be sipping on this slice of pumpkin pie — not with its oozy-boozy 7.7% ABV kick.

Bready and malty up front, with notes of maple, cinnamon and nutmeg, then a little hint of vegetal pumpkin as it warms a bit in the finish.

The pumpkin and spices don't really come through much. What's there is a nice, smooth ale that's enjoyable but not what you'd expect.

I've been waiting on this one for a while, for no particular reason. As a lover of some Pennsylvania Pumpkin Pie, this is my jam. The smell of pumpkin is surprisingly strong on the nose and in the mouth. In the middle, I taste all the different pumpkin pie spices ever so faintly and it finishes on the amber malt. It drinks super light to boot, especially for the 7.7% ABV. The only thing that would make it better is if I had some actual pumpkin pie to eat with it.

Not really into pumpkin flavored beers. This one happened to arrive in my beer subscription so I gave it a try. I couldn't finish it. I had a few sips while it was ice cold. I let it sit for a while hoping it would change the flavor profile, which it did. I drank a little more but couldn't finish it. Maybe it's great for you if you like pumpkin flavored ales.

Solidly good pumpkin ale. If those are up your alley (like they are for me) you’ll enjoy this one. Not too much spice, just a nicely balanced flavor.

Big fan of pumpkin beers with real pumpkin flavor, not just that "spice" stuff. This beer does have a real pumpkin flavor! It packs a punch, though, and it's a bit too strong and malty for my taste - so much so that the delightfully pumpkiny flavors don't stand up to it. Less focus on the ABV would do this one wonders. Unfortunately, I can only give it 3 noses.

Pretty good pumpkin beer. If you like pumpkin ale you’ll like this, pumpkin flavor is pretty subtle. My girlfriend enjoyed it as well

A powerful brew with a good dose of pumpkin and associated pie spices in both aroma and flavor. Downsides are unbalanced alcohol, cloying mouthfeel, and more bitterness on the finish than I prefer in a Pumpkin ale. I realize this is an Imperial, but would like to see a bit more finesse.

My brother told me that this beer was just okay, but I disagree. I thought it was quite refreshing. The higher ABV was tucked in nicely behind a subtle balance of smooth flavors.
