A Note on This Beer
Unless you’ve got a bottle or two from Side Project in your collection, you can’t really call yourself a Wild Ale connoisseur. And for me, that means I continuously hunt for more brews from these Missouri oak-aging specialists, because they never stay in my cellar for long.
They’re too damn good! I just can’t stop myself from opening them!
Apparently, a lot of you feel the same way, because every time we get a new limited-release, you snatch ‘em all up and give crazy high scores. The last 3 beers we got from these guys are all rated 4.30+ on Tavour!
And that means you’re drinking ‘em, not holding on to ‘em. So, for a lot of you, it’s probably time for a re-stock. And boy-howdy have I got a bottle for you today!
It’s called Punchdown Blend #2 (Chambourcin), and it’s been nearly 3 years in the making.
To create it, the brewers at Untappd’s #2 Rated Brewery in the World first made a Flanders-style Sour Red Ale and aged it in French Oak for a full 2 years. Then, they add the must of Chambourcin grapes from Noboleis Vineyards, located just a short drive from the brewery, and let it re-ferment for 8 months! Finally, this wild and funky brew bottle ferments for natural carbonation.
That’s a whole lotta work for a bottle of beer! But once you taste the vinous complexity, bright jammy flavors, and slightly funky wild complexity, you’ll agree it’s all worth it.
You might want to pick up a couple bottles — one to add panache to your cellar, and one to open up as soon as it lands on your doorstep. Because if you’re anything like me, you won’t be able to resist.
