A Note on This Beer

It’s hard to compete with Seattle’s Reuben’s Brews when it comes to awards. They snagged two medals at this year’s GABF, bringing their total to a staggering 275 overall — they’re the most awarded brewery in the craft beer mecca of Washington state!

The secret to their success might just be rye! They use it in many of their brews, and the spicy quality has a delicious way of making a beer stand out. To help celebrate Reuben’s recent medal-winning icing on their massive cake of success, we’re sharing a delectable 4-pack that showcases their rye-innovations!

Rye Crush: Beers from Reuben’s Crush Hazy IPA series are arguably their most sought-after releases. Who are we kidding? There’s no arguing with long lines and lightning-fast sellout speeds! With waves of cinnamon-kissed orange-pineapple hop notes, Rye Crush is one of the most distinct variants of the bunch. It’s a big-time taproom favorite, and is beloved behind the scenes by the Reuben’s crew.

Cinnamon Raisin Rye Brown Ale: Deck the halls? More like deck the fridge, am I right? Of course I am — who doesn’t want to cozy up with warm cinnamon raisin bread drizzled in caramel sauce this time of year? This is the beer version that delivers all of those same hunkered-down-for-the-holidays flavors and feels.

Roggenbier Rye Hefe: If you’ve never tried a Roggenbier, boy oh boy, are you in for a treat! This one tastes like spiced banana bread. Is 10am too early for a beer? Heck no, not when you’re on vacation!

Dark Munich Lager: Ah, this is the one fans of crisp and quenching brews could use to sip their way through the season! With rustic Dark Munich malts, its oaky caramel character pairs beautifully with all of those favorite holiday foods, from mashed potatoes to green beans to honey-baked ham.

This holiday 4-pack is dashing with delicate flavors to spice up your winter, and the secret rye ingredient in each of them might just awaken your palate to a whole new world in craft beer.

Consider all the “juice bombs” dominating the IPA landscape these days it’s nice to have a good old dank, bitter, piney IPA. This one is great with nice mouthfeel!

Solid brew, hoppy, piney, but not a big bite on it.

Probably about as true to the style as you can be, but the overall balance wasn’t there for me.

Flavor is of citrus fruit and zest, mild bready malts, and mildly earthy hops. Rye barely detectable but comes through in the aftertaste. This is a nice shake-up of an NEIPA. The addition of the rye gives it some unique character. I'm not sure how much of that uniqueness is an improvement versus a novelty, but it's certainly not bad. Worth a try.

Bitter and hoppy in one great package. If you’re tired of the super sweetness is IPA beers this is one to try. Rye adds a unique bitter flavor unlike anything else.
