The Beer:

The team at Revolution are responsible for 9 of the top 10 Rye Wines on Untappd! So calling them masters of the style is a bit of an understatement.

And now you can try one of the top five with the latest batch of Ryeway to Heaven!

The Chicago crew crafted this rarely-seen style with 60% rye, giving its malt a distinct, richly spiced taste. Time spent aging in bourbon and rye barrels infused it with nuances of oak and vanilla all the way through the smooth finish.

Anticipate notes of whiskey caramel, creme brûlée, and delicate cocoa to burst out of every drop. Hints of dried apple and apricot should carry underneath before a decadent charred wood finish that only hints at a bold 15% ABV.

One sip, and you might think you’ve died and gone to a rye-lover’s paradise! Ready to taste Revolution’s style mastery?

The Brewery:

As the largest independently owned brewery in Illinois, the crew at Revolution Brewing make a point to craft what they love, above all else. Their brews have earned them quite a bit of acclaim, scooping up GABF medals, World Beer Cup awards, and all kinds of Chicago-area recognition from publications around the city. Chicago Eater, Chicago Reader, AND Chicago Magazine (among many others) have called them the best beer tour in the city, the best taproom in the city, and the warmest service in the city. It goes without saying, Revolution is a group of local legends!

Thick and viscous. Nose: brown sugar transitions to fig. Taste: fig, toffee, warm bourbon spice, hint of bitterness from the rye balances it all out.

I bought this because I didn't know what a rye wine was. This is good but very strong. Should ideally be paired with something equally strong; say, sausage or blue cheese or something of the sort.
