A Note on This Beer
I’m so stoked for today’s Scotch Barrel-Aged Imperial Stout! It combines two of my greatest loves: boozy, roasty, Dark Beer and ultra-smooth, caramelly, un-peated Speyside Scotch.
This dark nectar comes courtesy of the Barrel-Aging masters at Florida’s Cycle Brewing, where the tiny taproom that fits a maximum of 49 people is constantly crammed.
And no wonder! These brewers have a catalog of Dark Beers that rival any brewery in the country. They’ve even earned a higher Untapped brewery rating than Founders or Westbrook, but their beers almost never leave the state.
Bring a bottle of today’s 4.18 UT-rated brew to a party and you’ll soon find yourself surrounded by Stout fans, Dessert Beer fiends, and Scotch-swilling Ron Burgundy types.
But once you get a taste, you’re not going to want to share with any of them.
Open the bottle and massive aromas of dark chocolate and roasted coffee come spiraling up like a genie from a magic lamp. And when it hits your tastebuds, there’s the Scotch! This brew 11% ABV brew was aged for over a year in a variety of barrels from Scotland’s Speyside region, where they don’t peat their whisky. That means you get tons of caramel and toffee flavors without the smoke.
Think of a whisky-infused, dark chocolate truffle and you’ll have some idea of what I’m talking about here. YUM!
So grab a bottle or two of today’s Scotch Barrel Aged Imperial Stout and you’ll soon find yourself singing just like Ron Burgundy as you take a sip: “Here it goes. Down into my belly.”
