A Note on This Beer

When my kids run around without any pants on, nobody seems to mind. But when I try to do it, I’m told it’s “embarrassing.”

If I had things my way, the MOST pantsed up you would see me would be with a pair of Soft Pants from Fair State Brewing Co-op in my hands!

These brewers get it. They brewed this decadent Pastry Stout “for those times when putting on real pants and leaving the house just doesn't seem like a good idea.”

They also collaborated with their buddies at Barrel Theory Beer to make it, which is awesome! Thrillist named these magical brewmasters one of the 32 Hottest Breweries in America!

Together, the two crews made Soft Pants into a sipper of luxury. They gave it an irresistible sweetness by weaving silky additions of vanilla into a chocolatey-rich base. And, they imbued it with festive flavors of gingerbread cookies by aging the beer on a spicy, exotic Brazilian wood.

The resulting Stout is one that tastes like a stack of French toast drenched in top-shelf spiced rum!

In an ideal world, I’d be able to hang out on the couch all day, every day, without any pants on, just sipping this beer and feeling completely at peace.

The reality is, I might get a few weekends of that. Because, once this one-off release is gone, there’s no telling if it will ever come back!

CityPages named Fair State Brewing Co-op the Best Brewery in the Twin Cities in 2018; Won Best Limited Release Beer in 2020

Super rich and boozy. A pastry stout, so it is on the sweet side, but it's not over powering. If I came across it again, I'd grab more than 1 can!

Wondering if I got a bad batch. Tastes like a wood plank or a tongue depressor.

This lands with weight, and leaves a hint of pastry flavor behind. Then you’re buzzed. It’s like an alcohol-filled pastry. No wonder I took my pants off...

The nose and the taste are the same, but I’m incapable of describing what they’re like. All I can say is this great pastry stout and I wish I bought more.

Very decent imperial stout. A little disappointed in that the flavor did not live up to the description. While there was a strong presence of cinnamon, I didn't really get and taste of vanilla or french toast. As an imperial stout though this has some pretty good flavor

Really great bold flavor. It had the wood barrel aged bourbon flavor. But was smoothed out by subtle cinnamon and vanilla

Really boozy! Underneath the bourbon, a nice but undistinguished pastry stout.

This is a huge stout. There is a bunch going on, all of which could benefit from time. So I am cellaring can 2/2 and will give it a try December 2021.

Very fair, wasn’t liking this beer as it felt like a dark shelf beer. Lacked real flavor of any kind

This is thick - definitely lots of lactose to give it such a big mouthfeel. It’s over-spiced, and there is an aftertaste that is unpleasant. I forced myself to drink 1/2 of one, but then had to toss the rest. Just not for me. I’ve got three more cans just sitting here, mocking me.

This was my first brew from Tavour and it was absolutely amazing. Never had a beer like this with such a great taste. One beer got me messed up . Really wish I could got more. This is one beer you should get without a thought. I’m getting a 6 next time. Finally got some super bomb beer and looking to get more. If this is your first time getting beer from @tavour I would get this.

Not sweet enough for “pastry.” Finish is sort of bitter. I was disappointed. Update: I let my second can sit for about a year and it’s better than I remember. Sweeter and less bitter.

Interesting nuanced spicy notes from the barrel, so earned some points there. I sort of got French toast flavors on this one. Overall, pretty boozy and sweet.
