Italian-style Pilsners are an emerging style in craft — they take the ordinal German Lager to an enlightened, palate-pleasing level with volumes of delicate, dry-hopped European hop varietals.

When American brewers first got a taste of this unique style, they couldn’t wait to bring it home!

True Respite makes the style their own in their latest Lager series. Sparrow starts with a rustic bready backbone using Italian-malted Eraclea Pilsner malts, and adds loads of European Spalt and Hersbrucker Noble Hops for a citrus and earthy pine finish. Each gulp is crisp, clean, and immensely drinkable.

Italian Pilsners are built for sessioning, and at a smooth-sipping 5% ABV, Sparrow is no exception. It would be a refreshingly delicious accompaniment to any spicy dish — whether that’s pasta arrabiata or chorizo tacos is up to you. Saluti!

Crisp, somewhat dry, but with a rounded mouth feel. Subtle complexity I didn’t expect from a pils. Really enjoyable beer.

This is not a sweet pils, a toasted malt comes trough loud and clear. You definitely get the hops from the double dry hopping as well. Quite enjoyable.

A plesent, very smooth and and easy to drink pilsners. Typically not a pilsner fan but this had a nice sweet fruity undertone. Didn't throw off the style ovwrall but still gave it a unique flavor I enjoyed.

I’m not a huge Pilsner fan, bought for my spouse who said it’s exactly what he looks for in a Pilsner. Said he couldn’t give it 5 stars because just too expensive for a Pilsner.

“Italian Pilsner” usually makes me worry – many times, the beer is just a nasty IPL hop grenade, or it’s made with those sticky sweet tutti-frutti Kool Aid hops. Yuck. This one gets it right, hopped just enough with the right kind of hops. Delicious.

Great, well balanced, refreshing Pilsner. Enjoyed one on its own, an another with a massive taco truck burrito. Either way you can’t go wrong.
