A Note on This Beer
What happens when you get a James Beard Award winner and a Brewers Association-recognized brewmaster together for 25 years? Some of the most highly regarded Belgian Wheat Beer in North America!
That’s the story behind today’s Starling Wit from Allagash Brewing!
Head brewer Jason Perkins and founder Rob Tod have been at it since ‘95, and they’ve fine-tuned wheaty Belgian Ales to a level that’s rarely seen outside the mother country. Their flagship, Allagash White, repeatedly wins gold at the North American Beer Festival, and did again this year — a true testament to Allagash’s expertise.
Allagash adds another wheat wonder to their lineup with Starling Wit. Following in the Belgian tradition, the brewers use heaps of wheat for crisp, lemony brightness and a cloudy, smooth body. And, at 8% ABV, it soars a little higher than the average Wheat Beer.
Allagash then makes it distinctly theirs by spicing it with locally grown Maine ginger, zesty Curacao orange peel, and just a hint of citrusy coriander. Each sip is light, bright, and playful, like the little feathered friend it’s named after.
Today, you can find out what it tastes like when 600 years of Belgian tradition meet the wings of the present with Allagash’s skillfully crafted brew. But, fly fast — Starling Wit is a limited seasonal release!
