As one Wolf’s Ridge Brewing fan puts it, “This is a really pleasant surprise!”

Though, after tasting today’s Strawberry Basil Clear Sky, “pleasant” feels like an understatement. The Cream Ale style itself is intended to be refreshing, but Wolf’s Ridge Brewing takes it to new heights with summery additions of strawberries and basil, plus a dose of silky vanilla.

Each sip is like taking a nip of a strawberry basil mojito on a warm evening!

Crisp fruit notes mingle beautifully with the basil’s sweet ‘n savory flourish. It’s insanely smooth and absurdly drinkable with a 5.6% ABV.

This tips too far toward being a sour to be an enjoyable cream ale. Yet enough cream ale flavor remains to make it unbalanced as a sour. A swing and a miss.

I didn’t like this beer, but I can’t really criticize it, since it definitely is what it’s supposed to be. It’s light and refreshing with heavy carbonation. Don’t get this beer if you are hoping to be pleasantly surprised. It is exactly what it sounds like.
