A Note on This Beer

When Firestone Walker released their prized Sucaba 2018 Vintage, they said it “is built to last and can age for years to come.”

Here’s your chance to taste for yourself how two years of cellaring has mellowed out this English-style Barleywine’s complex, dark chocolate malt flavors and boozy, bourbon-oak aromas.

Or, let it slumber a while longer and wait for the deeper cherry notes and sweet vanilla undertones to reveal themselves further as the 12.5% ABV smooths out.

Just don’t wait too long before grabbing a bottle.

This is the beer that’s ranked #3 in its style on BeerAdvocate. That’s not in the nation — that’s in the entire world!

And, when Paste Magazine named Firestone Walker the #1 American Brewery of the 2010s last year, this Bourbon Barrel-Aged behemoth was listed as one of the reasons why.

So, while Sucaba’s savor-worthy complexity and velvety body will stand the test of time, our supply of it certainly won’t.

Rated a World-Class 100/100 on BeerAdvocate; 4.29 on Untappd

Solid, but with bw’s like B5K, harder to enjoy.

I have had a lot of Barleywine beers. This is by far my favorite. I wish I had more to age and try over the years. I have one left. I wonder how long I can age it?

Delightful, one of the most complex beers I’ve had to date. Caramel is forward at first sip, but as you continue you start to get cherry, tobacco + vanilla. Changes as it warms up. Warms the soul. Very nice weight/mouthfeel. Excited to cellar my other to try after aging!

This is a fantastic beer. I thought I hated barley wine until I tried this. Caramel and dried fruit flavors pair well with the barrel aged flavors. I would buy this again with no hesitation.

very good, sharper booze edge than I'd expect given the barrel the aging and the time in the bottle. interesting, malty, toffee and some spice.
